Running Free fue el primer single de Iron Maiden, el cuál vendió 10.000 copias en su primera semana y se incorporó en la posición numero 44 del ranking en UK. Esto fue una realización particularmente significativa para la banda relativamente desconocida, sin salir al aire en cualquier Radio. Éste era el primer lanzamiento registrado después de su legendario Soundhouse Tapes, y fue seguido muy de cerca por Metal For Muthas. La tapa del single tiene una significación particular como las primeras ilustraciones de Derek Riggs para la banda. ¡Éste es el primer dibujo de Eddie!
